What Sort of Things Should a Qualified Art Teacher Candidate Expect to Put in a Cover Letter?

Art teachers range from those who are using this position as a stepping stone toward a different career path to those who have never wanted to be anything else. In order to clearly convey your enthusiasm for the position, your experience in the field, and your level of education, you need to be able to produce a great art teacher cover letter. By introducing yourself to an employer in a strong way, you greatly improve your chances of landing a long-term position.

Although requirements can vary depending on the art programs at a given school, most art teachers need to have a bachelorís degree in fine arts or teaching. Related art fields, such as music and theater, can also be useful as a minor or concentration to supplement your education. Art teachers need to be able to pass a background check and often need to have certification in the state in which they choose to teach.

Ideally, an art teacher should convey not only technical expertise but a love of teaching and of visual arts. The sample art teacher cover letter presented below comes from somebody who emphasizes passion and eagerness when forming connections with children. This becomes especially important if you are an older candidate who wants something extra to focus on to give you an advantage over younger individuals who might know more modern educational techniques.

Administrator
Columbus Central School District

Dear Mr. Michaels,

I am writing to express my interest in filling the need for an art teacher in Columbus Central School District. My resume is enclosed, and you will find that I have a great deal of experience in both the artistic and educational worlds as well as a strong desire to communicate with children of all ages. Nothing would make me happier than to instill a love of the arts in the next generation of great thinkers in our society.

My college education came through the University of Cincinnati, where I received my degree in art education with a concentration in music. This has enabled me to succeed greatly within the educational field, as my well-rounded experience gave me opportunities as a substitute teacher in both the art and music fields. In addition, I served as a substitute in a general capacity in different school districts when needed. My experience and education combined with my strong desire to make sure that students have a good basis for an art education makes me an ideal candidate to fill this position.

I have enclosed my resume, and I can provide personal and professional references upon request. Should you have any questions, you can reach me by phone at (740) 452-3261 or via email at christenputnam@gsrmail.com. Thank you very much for your time, and I hope to discuss this opportunity with you in more detail very soon.

Sincerely,

Christina Putnam
